Need an Inspection?

The definition of a chimney inspection according to the CSIA website is: “A chimney inspection is an evaluation of the chimney or venting system to assess its condition and determine if it’s fit for use.” In order to maintain the health of your home and hearth, it is recommended that you get your chimney inspected once a year. Scheduling your inspection or cleaning in the spring or summer before it gets cold can help avoid the winter risk as well as prevent nesting animals in the future, through the installation of a cap or new liner. Call today if you have any concerns about your chimney. When it comes to fire, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Preventative maintenance is the best medicine.

Learn about our services

  • If you are planning on maintaining the regular use of your fireplace and nothing has changes during said use, a Level 1 inspection is the recommended minimum. For a level 1 inspection, our specialists will come and examine the readily accessible parts of your chimney. This includes the exterior, interior, and any readily accessible portions of the fireplace and connecting structure to assure there are no obstructions or buildup of combustible materials.

  • Changes to the system or unit requires a Level 2 inspection. These changes can include a change to fuel type, shape of or material in flue (including relining), or replacement if appliance. Any operation malfunction or external event (ex. a tree limb falling nearby) that is likely to have caused damage to the chimney warrants a Level 2 inspection. In addition, the sale or transfer of a property requires proof of a Level 2 inspection.

This includes a visual inspection of the internal surfaces and joints of the flue and liner. No demolition or removal of the building structure is required for a Level 2 inspection. Everything in a Level 1 inspection is included as well as the inspection of the accessible portions of your chimneys interior and exterior. If either a Level 1 or 2 inspection suggests a hidden hazard that is inaccessible without special tools or demolition in order to access, a Level 3 inspection will be required.

  • This includes all items and areas covered in a Level 1 and Level 2 inspection, plus removal of chimney or building components when necessary. The removal of external items such as the chimney wall or crown will only be required when necessary. This level inspection is required if serious hazards are suspected.
